Where’s My Refund?

If you're waiting for your tax refund, here's how you can track its status:

Online: Use the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” Tool

The IRS offers an easy-to-use online tool to check your refund status. You’ll need the following information:

  • Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
  • Your Filing Status (e.g., single, married filing jointly).
  • The exact refund amount from your tax return.

Where’s My Refund?

Refund Processing Times

  • Paper Returns: Processing takes longer, usually 6-8 weeks after the IRS receives your return.

Common Reasons for Delayed Refunds

  • Errors or missing information on your tax return.
  • The IRS requires additional identity verification.
  • Your return is under review for Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC).

An IP PIN is a 6-digit number that protects you from identity theft when filing your tax return.

An ITIN is used for individuals who cannot obtain a Social Security Number (SSN).

  • How to Apply:
    • Fill out Form W-7: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-w-7
    • Submit your application along with required documents to the IRS.
